An English man in his fifties was still being questioned in Ashbourne garda station today over the 2015 murder of Willie Maughan and Anna Varslavane .
The man was arrested in the Gormanston area on Tuesday, and is said to be an associate of gang boss Cornelius Price.
However a source told Meath Live, ‘This guy is not suspected of carrying out the actual killing, the belief is he was actively involved in the clean up operation afterwards though.
‘He would be an associate of the gang leader not a big player in the overall scheme of things.’
Maughan and his girlfriend were killed because it was feared they had information on the killing of Benny Whitehouse in Balbriggan the previous year.
Their bodies have never been recovered, despite numerous garda searches including a major one in the Monasterboice area of Louth three years ago.
