Meath West TD Johnny Guirke, has hit out at government efforts to roll out rural broadband and slammed them as a joke.
He told Meath Live, ‘That couple in Ballivor, that you have featured, are a perfect example, they have been waiting a decade which is just risdiculous.
‘I am hearing similar horror stories from all over the county, for example in my own area of Oldcastle while the urban area is okay the supply to the rural parts is virtually non existent.
‘I think the issue has really come to a head since the lockdown started with people having to wok from home and not being able to, it is also having a serious impact on college students trying to get their work done.
‘The whole thing is farcical, a joke, and nobody seems to want to do anything about it.’
The Sinn Fein TD hopes to raise the matter in next weeks Dail sessions.
‘I’ll be looking for speaking time to raise this issue, I know others have spoken on it before, but as elected representatives, we cannot stop chipping way at the government to try and do something about it, it’s affectng so many people nationwide that it has to be addressed sooner rather than later.’
