Canisters of the highly dangerous drug, nitrus oxide, also known as hippy crack are being discovered on a regular basis in Johnstown.
Meath Live has been forwarded a picture of numerous canisters that were discovered there inside the last seven days.
One source told us, ‘ It’s the new designer drug, it is, literally, deadly dangerous, and has already been responsible for the death of one young man in Dublin, it’s only emerged recently in Johnstown, but it is noticeable that canisters are being found far more frequently.’
Nitrous oxide is a colourless gas that when inhaled can make people feel euphoric and relaxed.
The effects of the gas have seen it nicknamed “laughing gas”, but it can also cause some people to have hallucinations.
The effects are caused by the drug slowing down the brain.
It is normally bought in pressurised canisters. It is then transferred to a container such as a balloon to be inhaled.
