Sinn Fein TD for Meath West, Johnny Guirke, has called on the Government to prioritise cancer screening for people as a matter of urgency.

he told Meath Live, “Over the last 10 weeks I have taken many calls from concerned people over the lack of screening taking place which has left them and family members distraught over not knowing what to do next.

“At the start of this pandemic, people were told to stay away from hospitals due to the high risks of the covid-19 virus, and that it was this fear that led to the huge backlog of appointments at screening centres, and the pausing of services didn’t help peoples anxieties.

“With the country entering phase 2, we must ensure that cancer patients are seen straight away by our hospitals and staff members as they have worried long enough about their health.”
