One of the lead Fianna Fail negotiators in the attempts to form a new government, Meath East TD, Thomas Byrne, has said he will ‘advocate strongly’ for the long awaited rail link between Navan and Dublin.

Leaked documents, on the proposed programme for government, suggest there will be a 2;1 ratio in favour of spending on public transport over new road infrastructure.

Byrne, widely tipped to be a minister in the next cabinet, told Meath Live this morning, ‘ The suburban links will certainly be enhanced, that part of the programme was agreed in the early hours, and there will also be substantially increased investment in public transport generally and the National development plan will be reviewed.

‘As part of that, I will be advocating as strong as I can for the Navan Dublin link, it’s something I feel has to happen.’
