Sonairte Ecology Centre, in Laytown, will be hosting an event this Sunday, August 30th called ‘A Walk N Talk Through the Grounds of Sonairte’ presented by Historian Brendan Matthews.

The event will run from 2 p.m to 3.30 p.m and tickets cost €10.00 per person. The walk will be about the history and heritage of the hidden gem that is Sonairte Ecology Centre.

Brendan Matthews is a community historian from Stamullen. He regularly presents ‘Walk N Talk’ events around Drogheda.

Sonairte Ecology Centre was established in 1986 by members of the local community and concerned environmentalists. Their goal was to promote environmental awareness and education.

The centre is situated in a farm complex of historical interest on the banks of the River Nanny near Laytown, County Meath. They have developed steadily since their establishment in regards to both physically facilities and its standing as an environmental organisation, educational facility and visitor attraction.

Sonairte Ecology Centre features an organic walled garden, nature trail, a café and a zero-waste shop.

They have been certified as an organic food producer with the Irish Organic Farmers and Growers association since they were established. They also teach about organic horticulture and provide courses in various aspects of environmental education.
