Fianna Fail councillor Sean Drew, who is based in Kells, has taken to social media to condemn anti social behaviour in the north Meath town.

And his Faceebook post makes the claim that a ‘Fagin’ like gang of children, similar to that in Oliver Twist, is intimidating kids and vulnerable people in a certain estate.

The post reads ‘Kells is a great town to live in and bring up families with a welcoming community spirit. The future of the town is bright with many progressive developments happening and much more to be delivered in the near future.

‘However, there are a number of issues that are occurring which have a negative impact on the daily lives of some of our residents.

‘Drug dealing taking place in various housing estates and around the town, creating concerns about associated serious criminal activity.

‘A very small minority of youths gathering in an intimidating manner in some public places causing anxiety and fear to a number of elderly residents.

‘Speeding, revved up and reckless driving occurring late at night particularly on and around the bypass.

‘A gang of children aged between 10-14 abusing, (both physically and verbally), other children and vulnerable residents in a particular estate.

‘All of the above issues have been related to me over recent weeks in my position as a public representative. These are not isolated incidents and are causing genuine upset to many people. The Gardai are aware of these matters and are following up on them.

‘I would urge anyone who is impacted by these or similar activities to confidentiality report them to the Gardai so that they can get a complete picture of the extent to which they are occurring.

‘This will enable the Garda authorities not only to target and resolve these matters but may also assist them in seeking any additional resources that they require locally.’

The post has attracted over one hundred comments the vast majority backing Drew’s condemnation of what is going on.
