Aontú local representative for the Slane area, Peter Whelan, has allayed fears that were emerging in relation to the local COVID test centre in the village.

He told Meath Live, ‘It was alleged there were people walking out of the test centre through the village and standing at the bus stop outside the Conyngham Arms , and not wearing masks .

‘Obviously that concerned me so I spoke with a senior member of the HSE and was assured that people making appointments were asked how they intended to travel and were asked not to use public transport.

‘In fact he confirmed to me that the HSE even offer to arrange transportation for the client .

‘I was also reassured by the statistics of the test results as apparently 98% of tests come back negative .

;There is one slight hiccup and it relates to non attendance of people who have made an appointment to be tested, I’d asks anyone with an appointment for a test to have the decency to turn up . There are slots allocated for these tests and the staff are working tirelessly to keep this virus at a manageable level’
