Ashbourne based councillor Joe Bonner is to stage a protest against An Bord Pleanala’s decision to approve planning for apartments on the only green space in Millbourne estate, outside the planning boards offices in Dublin tomorrow.
He told Meath Live, ‘I am going to protest outside An Bord Pleanalas office between 11am an 12.30 as I feel the general public need to know about this appalling decision to build thirty Apartments on a children’s play area in Millbourne estate.
‘I am outraged at the decision by An Bord Pleanála to overrule the decision of Meath County Council and grant permission when this development has previously been refused twice by Meath County Council and refused twice by An Bord Pleanála itself.
‘An Bord Pleanála in “their wisdom“ have now granted permission for the four storey development of these apartments on the playground in what is an appalling attack on the three hundred families of Millbourne .
‘We put our trust in the public authorities to look after the interest of our families and communities and they decide to take away the only green space available to them. Who can we trust now?
‘Do we have to take to the streets to get fair play? Is planting grass on the rooftops going to be our only available open green space in the future? Will this type of decision by An Bord Pleanála be replicated throughout our county and country? What is going on?
‘This is an appalling decision!! The government is all talk about sustainable communities and building a better and greener environment but it’s just that – all talk.
‘I’d ask anyone who feels strongly about this to join in the protest tomorrow.’
