East Meath TD, and Minister of state for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne, has confirmed to Meath Live that he is currently self isolating and awaiting the result of a test for Covid-19.

He revealed, ‘I developed a bit of a cough last Monday and immediately rang my GP as I knew it was one of the Covid symptoms, and he sent me for a test.

‘I have been self isolating in my bedroom since and the only social contact I have had is shouting out the window in conversation with a neighbour across the road or calling downstairs to the family.

‘The message I’d like to get out there is that there is no stigma attached to this, if you feel you have any of the symptoms then get a test done, it is nothing to be embarrassed about.

‘The best advice can be found on the gov.ie website and really people should act immediately if they feel they need to.’
