Aontú leader and Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín has written to the CEO of Meath County Council to voice serious concern over the manner in which the Meath County Development Plan is being “pushed through without the proper scrutiny”.
He stated; “I am very concerned at the manner in which the Meath County Development Plan is being dealt with at council level. I have been speaking to a number of Councillors and it seems like the process is happening in a manner that means proper scrutiny cannot happen”
“I am told of Cllrs being called on to speak to motions while an official has stated that the motion has already been voted upon”.
“I am concerned that the democratic process cannot be delivered in such manner, that key oversight and that accountability is lost”.
“I am concerned that the rushing through of such important work in the face of significant opposition from many cllrs will leave the council open to legal action in the future”.
“I have request that the council return to the hybrid model where Cllrs can attend the Solstice in person in a socially distanced fashion or put a stay on proceedings for 3 weeks until restrictions are eased”.
