A local councillor is welcoming a new initiative that aims to help people get on the property ladder in Co. Meath.

Fine Gael’s Joe Fox has called for “serviced sites” to be set aside on the edge of small towns and villages in the county.

An objective will now be included in the new Meath County Development Plan to allow for serviced sites to be made available over the course of the next six years.

Such sites would already have utility connections such as water, gas, electricity and mains sewage as well as access to main roads, making the construction of the property more cost effective for the buyer
