Earlier this week, Castletown trainer, Noel Meade revealed to the Irish Independent, that he caught Covid at last year’s Cheltenham festival and conceded he was ‘very ill’.

He revealed that as he has ‘excellent staff to do the job’, he wouldn’t be travelling to this year’s event.

So the roars of delight were probably heard as far away as Nobber and possibly stretched to Kingscourt when Jeff Kidder romped home under the drive of Sean Flanagan in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, the 4.15 race on the festival’s opening day.

The bookies were screaming as well because the Meade trained horse came in at a whopping 80/1.
