A number of local motorists were caught speeding on National Slow Down day

Local offenders included a driver doing 183km/h in a 120 zone on the M1 at Dunmahon in Dundalk.

Another in Co. Louth saw a driver doing 155km/h in a 120 zone on the M1 in Drogheda.

While the offences in Co. Meath included a driver doing 90km/h in a 60 zone on the R147 in Piercetown, Dunboyne.

National Slow Down Day ran from 7am yesterday to 7am this morning – with 150 thousand vehicles checked in total and 994 found guilty of breaking the speed limit.
