An 80-year-old man was remanded in custody when he appeared before Navan District Court charged in connection with a house fire at Beauparc on Wednesday evening.

Peter O’Brien, St Michael’s, Beauparc is charged with arson – ┬ádamaging the house by fire, and endangering the lives of two named women there on May 19th.

Detective Garda Katherine Christie gave evidence of having arrested O’Brien on Wednesday and taking him to Navan Garda Station where he was charged.

He made no reply to the two charges.

Defence solicitor Miriam Regan said the accused had nowhere to live at the moment and there would be no application for bail.

Judge Cormac Dunne remanded the accused in custody to appear by video link at Trim District Court on Tuesday next.
