A huge haul of drugs was discovered in a planned Garda operation in the Ashbourne area last night, and at the same time drugs and cash were also discovered in raids in Limerick.
Two men have been arrested following what was a cannabis herb seizure in Meath.
A total of 67.5 kilos of the drug was recovered after a vehicle and one premises were searched as part of an operation by members of the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau
Both suspects – who are aged in their 30s, are currently being detained at Finglas and Ashbourne Garda Stations under the Drug Trafficking Act.
A Garda spokesperson told Meath Live, ” A number of premises across the Ashbourne area of Meath and in Limerick city were searched as part of this operation. Cannabis Herb (pending analysis) worth €900,000 and approximately €45,000 in cash was discovered and seized.
Eight persons, one woman aged 40s and seven men aged from their 20s – 70s, have been arrested. They are all currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at various Limerick city Garda Stations.
Two men were also detained in Meath and are being held at Ashbourne and Finglas stations.
This operation represents the ongoing investigations into drug distribution networks in the mid-west.”
