Fianna Fáil councillor Tom Behan has claimed that the persistent theft of lifebuoys from Mornington has to stop.

The four life-saving devices, only installed by Meath County Council last week, were taken from their placeholders over the weekend.

It is the latest in a series of thefts and the same individual is believed to be responsible.

Behan told MeathLive, ‘My understanding is that it is not just anti social behaviour by this person there are other issues at play and the authorities have to tread softly.

‘At the same time it cannot be allowed to continue as every theft of or damage to a lifebuoy puts lives at risk.’
