On June 1st this year Meath Live sent a set of questions to the five Ashbourne councillors involved in the attempt to establish a community park at Mooney’s field, aka, Killegland Farm.
You may recall we got no answers at the time, and incidentally, we still haven’t.
One of the questions we asked was who owns Mooney’s Farm and in lieu of a reply, we looked into it a bit further.
We have managed to establish that the company that owns the land is called Knockglade Limited which was incorporated in April 2020.
The directors are businessman James Callery, based in Kilkenny and the owner of WestwardMotor Group, one of Ireland’s largest importers of cars and which specialises in Scania trucks.
The other director is Paul Grimes, an auctioneer with an address listed in Howth county Dublin.
There appears to be a mortgage on the lands related to funds supplied by Callery for its purchase.
Media reports in December 2020 suggested that auctioneers, Coonans, has obtained a hefty €7 million for the 241 acres.
