Independent councillor Alan Lawes has once again vented his fury over the lack of out of hours service for vulnerable homeless people in Meath.

Lawes revealed on LMFM’s Michael Reade show how he had no way of contacting the council when he encountered two women sleeping rough in Navan last night.

And he finished by claiming, ‘There’s currently no after hours service unless a person has become homeless due to fire, flood or adverse weather event. We have an emergency number to ring for Meath County Council if a pipe bursts up the road beside you there is number I can call out of hours to sort it, but if somebody becomes homeless out of hours we have nobody to ring.’
