Aontú leader and Meath West TD, Peadar Toibín, has backed Alan Lawes call for an independent inquiry into Meath County Council’s handling of allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour at a premises they use for emergency accommodation.

He told meathlive.net, ‘I would first of all welcome the confirmation from the Gardai that they are investigating allegations of a serious sexual assault related to this accommodation.

‘Secondly, I would call for the council to stop sending people to this premises immediately, that has to be an imperative it has to happen right now.

‘Finally it is never a good look to have somebody investigating themselves and on that basis, I would support Alan’s call for an independent inquiry and t is something that needs to be set up as a matter of urgency.’
