There has been a massive rise in the theft of catalytic converters in Meath.

A warning post on the Meath Crime Prevention Facebook page advises that 33 such thefts have occurred in the Meath Garda division so far this year – the most recent at the Fairgreen in Navan last weekend.

A catalytic converter is the exhaust emission control device, which is attached to the exhaust on the underbody of the vehicle, and while all vehicle models can be targeted, it says thieves are particularly targeting older model Hybrid cars.

A lot of the thefts occur in broad daylight and sometimes in public car parks and anyone who spots someone examining or working on a vehicle in a suspicious manner is being asked to ring 999 or 112.
