Fianna Fáil Senator Shane Cassells has told the Seanad he is “blue in the face” from making the case for building the Dublin to Navan rail link.

Cassells asked the Minister for Transport to provide an update on proposals to extend the existing rail line from the M3 Parkway near Dunboyne to Navan.

Responding on behalf of Minister Eamon Ryan, Junior Minister Josepha Madigan said a revised transport strategy for the Greater Dublin area is expected to be ready for publication next year.

Senator Cassells says that the National Transport Authority report on the feasibility of extending the rail line to Navan is completed and called for the funding to now be provided, saying, ‘A cheque needs to be written.’
