Work has begun on, what will be a massive undertaking, to build Ireland’s largest solar farm which will create enough energy to power over 40,000 homes.

The farm is located in Ballymacarney near Kilbride in County Meath.

Statkraft, one of Europe’s leading producers of renewable energy is

the driving force behind the venture.

The solar farm was granted planning permission in 2018 and went on to be awarded a contract in the Irish government’s first Renewable Energy Support Scheme.

Under the scheme, the project carries a significant benefit for the local community and will deliver over 40,000 Euro per year to local community initiatives.

The project will be fully operational towards the end of 2022.
