A Ratoath woman who returned home from hospital with her new baby on Saturday evening was left without any water in the house after demand outstripped supply at the reservoirs that pump water into the area.

Councillor Nick Killian told Meath Live, ‘ The situation was made worse for the poor lady when her husband went into the village to buy bottled water only to discover it had sold out and he ended up having to drive to Aldi in Finglas to get some.

‘Things have improved today with supplies being provided from the water tower in Dunshaughlin but the message has to be sent out that people need to conserve water and that means no washing cars no watering flowers and just generally being sensible.’

‘Let’s be honest that is not good enough.’
