Four teenage boys were arrested and later released following a public order incident on a beach near Bettystown last month, gardai have confirmed.

A gang of teenagers from Drogheda are understood to have attacked a group of local young people on June 3.

The attack led to the mother of one of the victims launching a campaign for a full-time Garda station for the East Meath area.

Gardaí confirmed that officers from Meath, assisted by Drogheda gardaí, conducted a number of searches at houses in the Drogheda area on the morning of July 20.

A Garda spokesperson told Meath Live “Four male teenagers were arrested and detained at Ashbourne and Balbriggan Garda Station. All four have been released and a file will now, in the first instance, be forwarded to the Director of the Juvenile Diversion Programme as required by Part 4, Children Act 2001.”
