The Bishop Of Meath Tom Deenihan, has sent a letter to all priests in the diocese advising them they can go ahead and hold confirmation ceremonies.


This decision flys in the face of current guidelines which state that places of worship are open for religious services for up to 50 people but ceremonies, such as communions and confirmations, should not take place.


In Navan parents have been allocated times for confirmation and close to four hundred children are set to be confirmed in what are expected to be shortened ceremonies in both St Marys and St Pauls chapels on August 18th,


Yesterday Taoiseach Micheál Martin urged bishops not to press ahead with breaches of the regulations.
