A Meath TD says confusion surrounding the guidelines on outdoor events has resulted in a local charity event having to be cancelled in its traditional format.

Between 400-500 people were expected to take part in the Moylagh JFK 50 Mile Challenge on Saturday to raise money for a number of cancer services.

However, Gardaí informed the organisers yesterday that only a maximum of 200 people could attend the event.

Local Sinn Féin TD and chairperson of the organising committee, Johnny Guirke says they have been left with no choice but to hold a virtual event:

An angry Guirke told LMFM. ‘It’s very very disappointing, we had everything in place, like the food for example, and three days before hand to be told we can’t go ahead and we are only entitled to 200 people is heartbreaking’.
