Goals win games and the two scored by the Royals, Mikey Cole, proved the difference in last nights All Ireland under 20 B decider in Newry.
The sides were level, 1-8 to 0-11 at the interval but Meath finished the stronger down the finishing straight.
A strong second half performance from the Royals was the key to their success, where they outscored their northern opponents 1-11 to 0-8.
Mikey Cole’s goal eight minutes from time proved to be the decisive score, and James Murray chipped in with an 11 point total.
A fine late save from Conor Ryan from close in free, in second half injury time sealed the deal for the winners.
Derry started the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded for their efforts when they lead by 0-8 to 0-5 at the first half water break. Cole registered his first goal five minutes afterwards to steer the Royals back to level terms at the interval.
The two Jack’s, Lanigan and Cottrell, both pointed twice in the opening half, while Padraig Neilis alongside the three Cassidy’s, Jack, Eoghan and Shea pointed for the Oak Leafers
However a strong last quarter ensured Meath got across the line
