The Meath GAA website has a lovely story about how one of the stars of Meath’s minor All Ireland win last Saturday motivated himself, and it really tugs at the heart strings.

We’ll let the GAA boys tell it in their own words.

‘One of our stars, Christian Finlay wore a wrist strap on his left arm in Croke Park with some motivational words written on the same. The wrist band said ‘Do it for Dave & Nanny. RUN!!’

Christian lost his beloved Nanny to Covid-19 on 11th April 2020. Kay Finlay was much loved and would have thrived watching her grandson in Croke Park yesterday. Last week, Christian’s neighbour, and respected Laytown United coach Dave Conroy was tragically killed in a car accident in Duleek. The outpouring of grief in the Laytown, Bettystown and Drogheda areas was a testament to how popular Dave was.

Do it for Dave & Nanny. RUN!!

A lovely sentiment for two people that influenced this young man’s life!’
