Aontú activist Peter Whelan has hit out at the continuing, Covid related, block on live music and entertainment gigs .
He told Meath Live, ‘Irish artists and musicians are facing 19 months of the severest income restrictions in the whole of Europe. This has put enormous economic stress on artists and musicians.
In many cases, people have struggled with mortgage, debt, and the everyday costs of living.
The new rules regarding increased numbers, while welcome , still means that making a living is outside the reach of thousands of families relying on a salary from this industry. Many have left the sector as a result .
This will have serious repercussions on our cultural way of life that we are renowned for all over the world . If it is safe for our Tánaiste to attend a gig in England then I think he as the minister with responsibilities for buisness in our country should exercise his powers and open up this sector immediately’.
