A householder in Carlanstown was the victim of an attempted scam last Thursday when a number of members of the travelling community approached him offering to tarmac his driveway at a reasonable rate.
When he declined to have the work done the group commenced doing it anyway and subsequently told him their efforts would cost him €4000.
When he refused to pay threats were issued and matters escalated to the point where Gardai were called.
A Garda spokesperson told Meath Live, ‘Gardaí attended the scene of a dispute between a number of individuals at premises in Carlanstown Co. Meath on the 23rd September 2021. As this is a civil matter An Garda Síochána will not be commenting further’.
The householder who did not want to be named confirmed the event and told us. ‘The matter has now been resolved’.
Meath Live understands that a similar incident took place recently in Kentstown.
