The Australian-based Kells man who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness got some good news last month when he popped the question to his childhood sweetheart and she said ‘Yes’.
Shane McGeough from hitting the headlines a month ago when he revealed that Australian authorities had refused to grant his mother, Cathy, a travel visa, to be with him in Adelaide after he had been given the terrible news that his cancer was incurable.
Cathy fought her way through the red tape and eventually arrived in Adelaide about three weeks ago to help look after baby Harlow while Shane’s partner, Michelle Farrell accompanied him to his hospital treatment.
And today the family and friends of the couple were celebrating after Shane made an announcement on his Facebook page.
He posted, ‘ Hey everyone!!
‘This is my first post since receiving my cancer diagnosis in August. The first few weeks were trying in the sense that me and my family couldn’t understand, why me, why us.
‘I personally have gotten huge support from family, friends, and all of my team at the RAH.
On a positive note, I would like to share with you guys some beautiful news. On the 14th of October I asked Michelle to marry me and “she said yes”. I am so happy to share this with you guys.
‘Since getting this diagnosis I firmly believe do what makes you happy, let nothing or nobody get in the way.
‘Also thanks to everyone for all the support, love, prayers, and well wishes. We can’t express enough how much it means to us.
Love Shane Michelle & Harlow xx’
A close family friend said, ‘ It’s brilliant news and if anyone deserved some good news it’s Shane and Michelle.’
