It turned into a great weekend for former Meath star Kevin Reilly when less than 24 hours after his parent club, Navan O’Mahony’s secured their senior status he managed Trim to IFC success setting up the intriguing possibility of him taking on the Hoops in the SFC next season.

The team in red was well deserving of their success. It goes along with their Corn na Boinne triumph just over two months back.

Declan Dowling got the game’s first goal in the eighth minute, but Trim keeper Peter Farrell had denied Oldcastle a goal minutes earlier with a fine double save.

Aaron Lynch and Daire Lynch also had an opening for goals in the early stages. Oldcastle had the game’s first, in the third minute, when Garrett O’Reilly was denied by a brave double-save from Farrell.

Eoin O’Connor’s goal, with help from Mikey Cullen, saw the winners lead by 2-4 to 0-5 at the break.

Aaron Lynch scored the third goal seven minutes from the finish to put a gloss on a deserved win.
