FG councillor Noel French has called on the Department Of Education to urgently address the problems surrounding numbers in both Boyne Community College and Scoil Mhuire girls school
He told Meath Live, ‘ A major part of the problem which has seen 396 people applying for 192 available places in Boyne for next year is that the population of the town is growing and the department doesn’t appear to recognise the need for another school here.
‘Another issue is that Boyne is a DEIS school which means it is obliged to take pupils from the larger Trim area.
‘I accept there is a new school planned for Scoil Mhuire but as they have only just bought the site that is a long way down the line and there is a real sense of urgency about the problem locally.
‘Even the primary schools are packed and they have had to build up as if they build out they will take away part of the kids playground.
