The Meath District Council of SIPTU has written to the Minister for Health seeking an urgent meeting with him to discuss the threat to downgrade accident and emergency services at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

Its secretary John Regan says they’re seeking a meeting with Stephen Donnelly at his earliest convenience.

He says the letter highlights the large rally in Navan on 3rd November, which the SIPTU Meath District Council was involved in organising, that he says showed the strength of feeling among the public against any downgrading of the hospital’s E.D.

The Health Minister has instructed his department and the HSE to pause any planned changes to services, however, the Save Navan Hospital Campaign says that the emergency department has only received “a stay of execution.”
