The controversial treatment centre for drug addicts planned for Ballivor is expected to open early in the New Year after the Court of Appeal gave it the greenlight.

Last week the court upheld an earlier High Court ruling, which had overturned An Bord Pleanala’s decision that a change in planning permission was required.

Planning approval had been granted in 2014 for a nursing home at the site of the former old Ballivor National School but the nursing home was not built.

A source connected to Narconon Trust, the Scientology-linked body which is opening the centre, says the 56-bed facility is all but ready to open

There has been substantial opposition to the project by local politicians and the community from the area.
