Independent councillor Alan Lawes has tabled an emergency motion to today’s full council meeting requesting that officials ask the Minister for Health, to implement the same restrictions on the country’s hospitals and nursing homes as are currently applied to people entering Ireland.

The full motion reads, ‘ Due to the arrival of the new covid variant Omicron and the stark warnings from Nphet that the new variant could drive cases to between 6,000 and 15,000 per day after Christmas ( Irish Times December 3rd 2021) I am looking for your support suspending standing orders and moving the following motion.

“That Meath County Council calls on the Minister for Health to introduce the same entry requirements for all staff and visitors entering our hospitals and nursing homes as entering the Country. That is “they have to present either an Antigen test or PCR test which does not indicate the presence of Covid 19”.
