Meath County Council will not appeal a decision by the Information Commissioner to give nine councillors access to 80 hours of tape recordings of county development plan meetings.

Nine members of the Technical Group on the council – seven independent, one Labour and one Aontu councillor – had been refused access to the tapes by the local authority.

The councillors filed an appeal to the Information Commissioner and an investigator in that office said that access to the tapes should be granted by the council.

Meath County Council today informed elected members that it would not be appealing the decision and the tapes would now be made available to the Technical Group’s legal advisor.
