Meath East Fianna Fail TD and Minster for European Affairs Thomas Byrne has warmly welcomed the recent funding allocation of €2,778,750  from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government to Meath County Council for Housing Adaption Grants for older people and those with a disability.

“This funding is critical to ensure older and vulnerable members of our community remain at home and enable them to make modifications such as level access showers, stair lifts and access ramps.

“These grants are funded 80% from the central exchequer and 20% from the budget of the local authority. This means that Meath County Council will have €2.7 million to spend on home adaptions and improvements over the next year.

“This funding announcement represents an increase of over €200,000 to Meath County Council compared with last year’s allocation.

“This grant has proven extremely popular over the years and I would strongly encourage any older person who may need such work carried out to apply. I want to also pay tribute to the staff of the housing grants section in Meath County Council who work so hard and efficiently on behalf of the citizens of Meath” concluded Minster Byrne.
