A man wielding a chainsaw terrified customers at a Kentstown supermarket before chasing a group of teenagers with the lethal weapon and then driving his car at them.

Trim Circuit court heard details of the incident that happened On June 6th, 2021, and the outcome was an eighteen-month jail sentence for a Dulee

Michael Fitzsimons, (55), of The Deenes, Duleek, pleaded guilty to charges of endangerment and of possessing a chainsaw capable of causing injury or intimidation.

Judge Terence O’Sullivan was told that Fitzsimons admitted he attempted to run the youngsters over but due to the amount of drink he had taken has only a limited recall of the whole affair.

Gardai identified Fitzsimons from CCTV footage and called to his home where they found him asleep.

It emerged that the chainsaw was not switched on at the time and Fitzsimons lawyers said their client conceded his actions were both wrong and indefensible.

Judge O’Sullivan described the man’s actions as irrational and jailed Fitzsimons for eighteen months.
