It could be Bonner the blue shirt ag the next general election if not even before that!
Meath Live first broke the story some years ago that Fine Gael had sounded out Independent councillor, and frequent pool topper in the Ashbourne area, Joe Bonner to join them, and today the Phoenix magazine reports along the same lines.
In a piece covering FG councillor Alan Tobin’s apology for calling Bonner a liar the long-running magazine suggests that even though the legal wrangle that ensued between Tobin, who was represented by FG party brief Kevin O’Higgins and Bonners solicitors, FG had made approaches to the Donegal native and argues that is ideally situated in the south of the Meath East constituency Bonner could hoover up the votes won by the departed Regina Doherty last time out,
It also reveals that Tobin’s advisors turned down three offers to end the legal battle by issuing a simple apology.
Bonner told Meath Live, ‘I’m the Ronaldo of East Meath they all want me on their team and hate playing against me. Like any intelligent man, I will listen to any sensible suggestions put to me.’
