A new twist on a cruel act happened in Kells on Tuesday when an elderly man was duped into allowing a man into his home so he could get a pen to sign for a delivery parcel.

Gardaí are investigating the burglary which involved a bogus delivery man calling to the elderly man’s home.

It happened at a residence in the Tuberultan area yesterday morning, when the man, claimed he had a parcel to deliver to the homeowner.

He then accompanied the victim inside after asking for him to sign for the package before two other men appeared and helped ransack the bedroom looking for cash.

No money was stolen, and the elderly man was not injured during the incident.
