A motorcyclist has been hospitalised following a serious collision on the main Navan to Trim Road (R161) this morning.

The two-vehicle crash involving a car and a motorcycle took place at Balreask Cross at around 11am.

The motorcyclist was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown with serious injuries.

The road was closed for a time this afternoon but has since reopened.

Gardaí would like to speak to anybody who may have been travelling in the area at the time and who may have dash cam footage.
