SIPTU has met the HSE to discuss the threat to the future of the A&E department at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

Members of its Meath division discussed the planned downgrading of the Emergency Department to a Medical Assessment Unit with the hospital’s General Manager, Anita Brennan over recent days.

The union says they requested a copy of the terms of reference for reviewing the hospital’s operation and seeking the facility’s long and short-term investment plans.

A follow-up meeting between both sides is expected in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the review ordered by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly continues.

This all comes at a critical time for the well-being and safety of patients and Meath’s large and increasing population county Meath. There have been several large demonstrations organised

by concerned parties and the people of Meath to indeed protect those services and add to the infrastructural needs.

We at Meath Live will keep you updated and informed as the news develops.
