The Government has confirmed that the emergency accommodation site for Ukrainian refugees at Gormanston army camp in Co. Meath will close next month.

The tented village currently houses 190 people and was opened as an overflow facility in July.

The site will close during the first week of October as it was not intended to remain open during the colder winter months.

However, around 800 new accommodation spaces are still needed each week as an average of 90 to 130 people arrive here from Ukraine every day.

The vast majority are in need of state accommodation unlike earlier in the crisis when many arriving in Ireland had friends and family in the country.
