Gardaí are appealing to people to remain vigilant of scams seeking to access their bank accounts.

It’s after a phone scam in Co. Louth saw a local lose €12,000.

The victim in Dromad was recently contacted by a person claiming to be from their bank.

During the call, they were advised to uninstall their banking app and await new account details to be sent out in the post.

However, when the victim reinstalled their banking app several days later, they found five transactions had been made without their permission by the scammer.
