A man in his 30s has been arrested after the body of a woman was found in an apartment in Ratoath, Co Meath.

The woman, who was in her 30s, was found with fatal injuries in the apartment in Riverwalk Court just after 6pm yesterday.

The scene has been preserved as a crime scene and a man was arrested at the scene.

He is being held at Ashbourne Garda Station and can be questioned for 24 hours.

The scene was sealed off for a forensic examination by specialists from the Garda Technical Bureau and Forensic Science Ireland.

The woman’s body remains at the scene pending the arrival of a State pathologist.

Gardaí are treating the death as suspicious and have appointed a senior investigating officer and established an incident room at Ashbourne Garda Station.

The victim has not yet been identified and gardaí will await the results of the post-mortem examination to determine the cause and time of death.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else at present but are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Ashbourne Garda Station.
