A Navan resident who subjected a woman to a sustained sex attack after following her home has been jailed for three years.

19-year-old Roy Sugaton who lived in Ferndale at the time of the offence, pleaded guilty to the attack at a location in the Leinster area on November 28th, 2019.

He has no previous convictions and was aged 16 at the time of the offence. The victim was 15.

Justice Karen O’Connor set a headline sentence of four and a half years. She suspended the final 18 months for two years on strict conditions.

She also imposed a five-year post release period of supervision.

The judge also noted that had Sugaton been an adult at the time the sentence would have carried a headline sentence of nine and a half years.
