The two men who were being questioned by Ashbourne Gardai over the murder of 22 year old Mahamud Ilyas, whose body was discovered wrapped in a carpet in a field in Kilbride last Saturday have been released without charge.
A file will now be prepared for the DPP.
A Garda spokesperson said, ‘ The man in his 50s arrested on Tuesday 13th December 2022 by Gardaí investigating the murder of Mahamud Ilyas has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
‘ A second male in his late teens was also arrested as part of this investigation on Tuesday 13th December 2022. He has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
‘Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal for information. They are particularly appealing to any persons who may have seen or spoken with Mahamud between Friday 9th December, 2022 after 10am to Saturday afternoon 10th December, 2022. Any persons with any information on the movements of Mahamud are asked to contact the investigating team.
‘Gardaí also continue to appeal to anyone who travelled along Belgree Lane, Kilbride on Friday 9th or Saturday 10th of December, to come forward. Motorists with dashcam footage from this location are asked to make it available to Gardaí.’
