Gardaí in Drogheda have launched their “Ask for Angela” campaign ahead of the Christmas season.

The initiative provides people with a code word if they find themselves in difficulty on a night out.

They can approach the bar or door staff at a venue or a taxi driver and “Ask For Angela” in order to get out of an uncomfortable or intimidating situation.

Speaking at the campaign launch at the Market Bar in Drogheda this afternoon, Superintendent Andrew Watters said venue staff have been trained and will know what to do next.

The campaign is being run in association with the Drogheda Implementation Board and a number of community partners, including the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland, the Restaurant Association of Ireland, the Irish Taxi Drivers Federation, Drogheda & District Chamber and the Love Drogheda Business Improvement District group
